Chapter 1: New Friend
I was merely 15 years old dealing with family responsibilities, school, job and a social life. Mind you, I wasn't handling it too great but hey, it was time to grow up when life took an unexpected turn.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like everyday for lunch in Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy cafeteria, we all huddled together to find our good friends to sit with.
"Hey Jenn. What's up?" Fanny came to sit at our table and brought 3 of her other male friends along to sit with us.
"Hey Fan, I'm ok. Hey guys. Um, hello! What's your name?" I knew Drew and Bill already from elementary school, except I don't remember seeing Fanny's 3rd friend roaming the halls in the school before.
"I'm Gabriel."
"Yo! Drew, Bill. Help me out with this project. I'll meet you guys in the library in 5." Tag didn't want to do this group project all by himself for English class.
"Hey I'll come along. I gotta memorize for this speech anyways." Fanny always got nervous about speeches every year for English class.
"I'll just stay here with Jenn and her friends. When you're done, I'll be in here." Gabriel told them.
"Ok man! We'll come find you." Bill proceeded to throw out the coke can in the recycle bin
So here I sat with a new friend and didn't quite know how to start a conversation. Luckily, he started anyhow.
"So how do you know Fanny?"
"Oh, she lives right across the street. So we became friends when we learned she was going to transfer here in grade 9."
"Oh, I see." He smiled, showing his perfectly aligned white teeth.
"How do you know her?"
"Oh, from band." (Told you I don't quite know how to talk with new people)
He took my wrist and put his fingers around it. "Wow, you're so thin. You need to eat more."
I took my hand away not because I was afraid of his touch but I just had an electric shock when he first touched my wrist.
"Yea. I've been trying to eat more. But I guess I have a fast metabolism."
"Hey! you guys want to play Big2?" Jeremy and Lily needed 2 other players since our other friends had left to purchase some food.
"Sure!" we said.
I was just glad that there was something else to concentrate on rather than thinking of what to talk about with Gabe.
